Tuesday evening just after 9 o'clock a woman identified as Marie Imelene Jeanlouis (b. Haiti, August 9, 1940) crossing the road by Otis on Caya Betico Croes was hit by a car and died from injuries sustained.
Police said she had been living on Aruba for many years, has the Dutch nationality, she has no family on the island and was to travel to visit family and friends in Haiti next week Wednesday. The car's driver was heading home after work and could not avoid the accident when the lady suddenly crossed in front of his vehicle. Somehow she had not seen the car or was distracted and did not notice the car was too close for her to attempt crossing. The lady was badly injured, her legs were broken, she had sustained a bad head injury, but was still conscious after the accident. She was transported with great urgency to the hospital, where she passed away. Police conducted a extensive investigation at the location immediately following the accident.
