The detention for investigation of the Venezuelan doctor, who had illegally practiced one or more aesthetic procedures on Aruba and is possible involved in or caused the death of a young Aruban woman, has been extended for another eight days. The prosecutor requested the prolongation and this was granted by a judge of instruction on the weekend.

The Venezuelan man is detained at the Noord precinct. The autopsy on the victim was finalized and the family has received the body of the young woman for burial. The pathologist concluded that no liposuction has taken place, but the doctor injected the patient with a substance. The exact cause of death has not been determined yet. The doctor had no permit to practice medicine on Aruba, nor had he the permission to import the substance he had used. Both actions are punishable by law. The victim had traveled to Venezuela a few weeks ago for an aesthetic operation, she was not completely satisfied with the results and the doctor traveled to Aruba to analyze the results and what options there are. Consequently, he decided to inject the victim with a substance that might have caused her death. If the prosecutor requests another extension, the suspect will be brought before the judge of instruction once more before the new year. There are indications that this doctor has more patients from Aruba and has been on Aruba before to carry out illegal aesthetic procedures.
