In the early morning hours of Saturday the Dutch Marines Base on Aruba organized its marathon around Aruba, called Ronde van Aruba. Forty groups of two, three or four people walked or ran a distance of 75 kilometers. Teams from Aruba as well as The Netherlands took part.

The participants left the base at midnight, running and walking the Aruba-round. The first edition of Ronde van Aruba took place in 1971. Two marines ran a similar route of 70 kilometers, arriving in 8 hours 54 minutes and 9 hours 16 minutes. In 2003 Wim Epskamp with a group from The Netherlands set the record of 5 hours 45 minutes 48 seconds.
