Minister of Public Health, dr. Richard Visser announced on Monday in a press release that Aruba will in fact acquire a linear accelerator to enable radiology treatment on Aruba, alongside the already available chemotherapy, surgery and diagnostics. Surgery will take place at Horacio Oduber Hospital, where Intensive Care, Medium Care, as well as pre and post surgery services are available. The oncology center,  with radiology department, chemotherapy department and other services will be established at IMSAN (San Nicolas Medical Insitute). The oncology center is being developed together with Baptist Health South Florida. The expansion of oncology services on Aruba will enable patients to follow the often long and difficult radiotherapy treatment on-island, with their support system close by, without having to relocate for one or more months to Curacao, Colombia or The Netherlands. IMSAN has also a specialized department for the treatment of diabetes and related complications, which soon will also include dialysis services.
