The Meteorological Department of Aruba (DMA) said the seismograph in the area of the hotels and Noord at 10:41:19.3 a.m. recorded an activity of 1.1 on the Richter scale, which lasted 10 seconds.

The seismograph did not record an earthquake, but converted the information of the Calbas Gavilan dump explosion to the equivalent in Richter. Further analysis showed a similar recording 4 minutes later by the seismograph in Paraguana. The waves recorded were typical of an explosion and not an earthquake, DMA added.
