Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) is ready to start with the US $11,000,000 project: The General Aviation Apron Extension. In the presence of members of the Parliament Chris Dammers and Clarisca Velasquez and other guests, Mr.Peter Steinmetz, CEO of AAA together with the Minister of Tourism & Transportation Mr. Otmar Oduber and AAA’s Director Operations Mr. Jurgen Benschop unveiled the project sign and gave start to the General Aviation Apron extension project.
The General Aviation Apron extension project entails the platform area increase of 21000m2 which represents 78% more parking space. This translates in approximately 25 more parking positions for private airplanes. New led flood lights and led taxi way lights will be placed. This will represent significant energy savings for the airport. The construction of a new parallel taxi way that complies with ICAO clearing standards is also included in the project, along with the construction of 2 new runway exits to the general aviation apron and a Helipad for the use of helicopters. “The rising demand for more General Aviation space will now be addressed and we’re very excited to provide extra service to our clients. In 10 months we will be able to welcome more passengers to the island through this facility. Something that both we as airport and I’m very sure that our clients are looking forward to!”, said AAA CEO Mr. Peter Steinmetz. The pictures illustrate the project designs and also the unveiling moment when Mr. Peter Steinmetz together with Mr. Otmar Oduber and Mr. Jurgen Benschop unveiled the sign indicating the start of this project.
