In an interview with Prime Minister Mike Eman, he reacted on the remarks by Aruba’s former prime minister and former MEP party leader Nel Oduber.
Eman said that Oduber’s verbal attacks on Valero and Mr. Bill Klesse are highly inappropriate, especially his statement that they can put the refinery on their backs and take it with them. Eman is of the opinion that this attitude by the former prime minister is exactly what caused Valero to close the refinery in 2009 and for KLM and Carnival Cruises to take Aruba out of their itineraries, while the island was under Oduber’s command. In the meantime, since the last quarter of 2009, when Eman won the elections, Caribbean Cruises is making calls to Aruba again, KLM has started offering non-stop flights to our island once more and the refinery reopened 15 months ago. Prime Minister Eman expressed that he does not understand the MEP party’s criticism, their reaction and elation as the Valero is facing financial challenges, which in turn again badly affects the local workforce and Aruba’s economy.
