On Thursday the Department of Civil Aviation officially began using a new automation system. Present for the occasion were Minister Otmar Oduber, Jorge Colindres of IASO, the director of the civil aviation department (DCA) Adi Maduro and associates working at the department.

Two years ago IASO and DCA set  the goal to register as many aircraft as possible on Aruba, while keeping safety and security always at the highest level with strict inspections and control. Oduber explained that the project began more than a year and a half ago when Colindres and DCA started talking about acquiring a better computer system, in particular the software. This was realized with assistance from DIA, the government's department for information technology. Aircraft registration is a significant additional income for the country's budget. At present, with 85 aircraft registered P4 (Aruba), the contribution is over 1 million florin. The goal is to have 200 aircraft registered on Aruba within the coming 3 to 4 years, which translates into a 4 to 5 million florin income.
