Member of Parliament for the island's largest opposition party - MEP, Evelyn Wever-Croes visited senior citizens' home Maristella with a delegation last week, where she socialized with the residents and had a chance to talk to the personnel about their wishes and daily challenges.

The issues are not difficult to solve, but there should be determination to do this; and we are determined to solve these problems, because only by solving them we can guarantee better care for our elders, Wever-Croes said.

The MEP party leader said the island's senior citizens deserve proper care, whether living at home or in a senior citizens' home. The homes need expanding to accommodate those seniors who are on a waiting list; there is need for additional assistance for the seniors who wish to continue living in their homes and also for a doctor specialized in geriatric care.

"We will also focus on financial aspects, including taxes and premiums that they are currently paying and are actually too high; we will lower them, the MEP party leader said.
