Minister Richard Visser of Public Health and Sport has announced that the National Laboratory will be privatized next year. The laboratory is undergoing a reorganization and since the budget did not permit for the privatization to take place this year, it was pushed to 2014. Privatization allows for the "Landslaboratorium" to function more efficiently and avail of the latest technological developments which are required by medical specialists and the hospital in general. "As is, the laboratory is not able to render these services," Minister Visser expressed.

"The thought behind it is to improve on the quality and the services," the minister added. He said the fees of all private laboratories have to be updated and they have to be lowered. The laboratory has to become competitive in price and AZV has to work with all certified laboratories.

Dr. Visser said the lab at the hospital has also to be integrated in the privatized national laboratory.
